Another Book That I would Recommend

I have been re-reading Real Estate Success for Dummies, by Dirk Zeller.  I highly recommend it to any Realtor.  It is written int he Dummy format, but it contains a lot of great information that goes beyond the sales training to run your business as a business.  It takes you through marketing to FSBOs and Expired listings through time management, and it gives you sample scripts.  I read it right after it first came out, and I will be honest, I had forgotten much of the content.

Old timer or Newbie I HIGHLY Recommend this book.  I have found several things that I can do to add to my effectiveness in my business.  I would also recommend that if anyone is like me, re-reading materials can be highly productive.

Opening Day....

Opening day has different meanings to different people.  I could be the day that the new store or shop opens up the pre grand opening opening or something.  It could mean the starting of the fishing or hunting season, but for me it only means 1 thing BASEBALL IS BACK!  I am excited, I am not one of those junkies that has to watch every game that is broadcast, but I do usually catch the plays of the day on Sportscenter.  I try to watch as many games as my schedule and my wife allows me to.  She really isn't that bad, I just had to tease a little.

I love opening day!  It takes me back in time and for just a few minutes, I am 12 again, hoping and praying that the Big Red Machine will have enough pitching this year.  I am glad that the steriods era seems to be over, let's hope that junk never makes it back into the game!  I am saddened to see the hallowed records of my youth erased by cheaters!  I can still remember when Henry Aaron hit 715, thinking that no one would ever break that.  Roger Maris hit 61 homeruns in a 162 game schedule, and did it while losing his hair and body weight due to the tremendous pressure that was place on him both to break and not break such a hallowed record.  Babe Ruth hit 60 in 154 games and trained on hot dogs.  If steriods had been available he may of hit 150.

I will never again be 12 years old, and the economics of the game almost dictate that there will never be another Big Red Machine, at least not in Cincinnati.  The big market teams can put together rosters of all stars that go from one year to the next, the small market teams just can't afford to keep them together.  That is just the nature of the beast, I am not saying that the game is better or worse, just different.  I doubt that we will ever see the Dodger way of building a team again.  Where an entire team more or less comes through the farm system together to the Major Leagues.

What we will see is a great game being played at the highest level, with the most exposure that we have ever seen.  Being from an area where we didn't have a nearbye Major League Team, I don't long for the time that I had to wait until Saturday's game of the week to get my fix!  I hate to borrow slogans, but I Love This Game!  I like the changes in the game, I like the fact that teams like the Diamondback and the Rockies made the playoffs last fall when neither was supposed to be at that level.

Have a great weekend, don't call Sunday Night, I will be watching the game!

Success thoughts

I was reading an email that included some very inspirational quotes, I found it to be very helpful.  I was thinking how I could incorporate that into a blog.  A quote that I thought I really needed to focus on was one by Vince Lombardi, the Great Football Coach.  The quote is: "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."

I thought that the word success could easily be substituted for winning, and it is true.  Success or winning is an all the time thing.  It is in our attitude, our appearance, our preparation, our training, everything that we do.  I honestly believe that in order to be successful we have to make successful trait into our habits.  To me that means that I have a lot of work to do.

To every individual out there success has a different meaning than it does to me.  The thing is to decide what success means to each of us then set out a plan to achieve those things.  The important thing to that is to make sure that we are always focused on achieving that success, to that end I have another Lombardi quote: "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."  This gives me hope, for I know my limitations, and I don't think that I will attain perfection in life, but I could live with excellence!  Have a Great Weekend!

Market in The Cedar City Area

I was just doing a check on the MLS to refresh my memory of the homes that have been listed during the past week in the Cedar City area.  What a great selection!  It is a very opportunistic market!  We have had a great selection from starter homes to executive homes, to even gentlemen's ranches.  There is also a good selection in the many surrounding communities!

Whether you are looking to buy your first house, or looking to move into that dream house, NOW is a GREAT TIME to buy!  These are just the home that have come into the market in the last 7 days, combined with what was already on the market, I agree with what a long time Realtor told me about this market.  "I have never seen such an opportunistic market, for both buyer and sellers."  For the seller looking that has equity, and is looking to move up, you can buy more house now than you have been able to in years!

We invite you to see for yourselves:  either come on up and see us, or visit our website, www.thecteamrealestate.com there you can search our MLS.  We look forward to hearing from you in either case.   We can help you with any home that you find in our MLS.  Have a Great Weekend!!

Thought for Friday

I am reading "Success as a Realt Estate Agent for Dummies" written by Dirk Zeller.  It is a good book.  It is one that I think especially every new agent should buy and read within the first couple of months of their career.  I also believe that it is good to read materials like this for experienced agents.  There is always something that we can learn, or learn to do differently.  I am a firm believer that once you stop learning, you stop being as great of a value to yourself, your family and your clients.

I am still about 1/2 the way through the book but I came across an idea, that I need to incorporate fully into my business.  It says: "Tackling the worst thing about Real Estate sales-forcing yourself to do what you should do even when you don't feel like doing it--will deliver the best thing about Real Estate sales: personal and economic freedom."

I thought about this and realized that I have been very guilty of not doing this.  If it something that I really don't like, I put it off, and the more that I put it off, pretty soon I stop doing it as often as I should.  Whether it is contacting FISBO's or just prospecting in general, I need to make sure that I make time everyday to do the things that I should be doing, but don't like to.  I also need to make sure that I do them promptly everyday, rather than as an afterthought.

I don't know whether anyone else out there feels that they need something like this or not, but to me it was a good reminder of what I should be doing, rather than just complaining about the market.  Have a Great Weekend!
