Thursdays Thought...................

We had a training in our office this afternoon on using the internet applications available to us through ERA.  It was good training.  Out of the training I got some good information and found out that there is a lot of things that I am paying for and not using.  Anyway, there was a great quote that was given, it didn't note an author, so I do not know who to attribute the quote to.

The quote is this: "Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion.  You must set yourself on fire!"

What a great quote, too often we sit back and wait for something good to happen, it won't!  YOU have to make it happen!  Make it a great week, what is left of it!

Wednesday's thoughts........................

I ahve been trying to get involved in the Social Media aspect of networking for business, but I will admit that I have gotten caught up in the sociality of the process.  A short story, I spent most of my young life in the same town.  I was in my thirties when I moved away.  When I lived in Woods Cross, Utah, not a lot of families moved out, consequently we had the opportunity to know people for long periods of time.

After my father died and my mother retired, she moved back to Parowan, Utah where she was raised.  By then I had also moved on, first to Lemoore, California, then to Las Vegas.  As my mother got older, we moved to Cedar City, to be closer to her.  Long story short, with my parents gone, I have not had any real reason other than nostalgia to spend time in my old home town.  My brother and sisters live in general area, but each is about 20 to 30 miles away from Woods Cross.

I have had many friends in my lifetime, hope to have many more, but it is sad to me at times that I had lost contact with many of the people that I grew up with.  This week on Facebook, I got back in touch with one of my oldest friends, ( I should say lifelong friends) I was even the best man at his first wedding.  He has since remarried and relocated from the Southern area of Salt Lake to just north of Woods Cross.

It has been strange, remembering things that happened 20 to 25 years ago better than I remember that happened last week.  It has been a great thing for me personally, I don't know if it will mean anything to me professionally, but personally, it has been a good thing.  Sometimes you have to tend to the roots to make the tree itself stronger, at least that is what I am thinking.

So anyway, this is my plug to get on and get involved in some of the social networking sites.  I like Facebook, but I am sure that the others are just as good!  I have extended invitations to many here on Active Rain, but if you look for us, we each have seperate pages, it isn't under the c team.  Look us up, you can never have too many friends!

Persistence...................

After a morning trip to the dentist for my checkup, I have to say that I learned a valuable lesson.  I have to go back and have some cavities filled, and possibly a crown.  I do a good job of brushing my teeth, but I have to be honest, I am horrible at flossing my teeth.  I have just never liked to do it, so my efforts are haphazard at best.  Now I have to pay for my distain for following a procedure that should be a daily activity.

So instead of having healthy teeth, like the one above, I have filled or crowned teeth.  I wondered how many aspects of our businesses are like this.  How many of the seemingly little things have we let slide until now our businesses are or will suffer because of this?  How often have we put off our prospecting, or following up for something else?

How often have we allowed our attitudes to suffer because of what the media is saying.  Have we put off our education to do something more exciting?  These are just some of the little things that we need to be doing all the time to keep a healthy, strong business.  I know that it is easy to think that I will prospect later, or call that past client tomorrow, but do later or tomorrow ever actually come in respect to doing what we have put off?

It is up to each one of us, I know that there are many areas that I really need to improve upon.  There still is time so go out and make it a great week!

Do what you do, do well.

When I was a kid I remember hearing a Sonny James song with the title "Do What you Do, Do Well."  I was just thinking about what to blog about when out of nowhere that line popped into my head.  The song written by a fellow Utahn, Ned Miller, has some sage advice to each of us.

Do what you do do well boy

Do what you do do well

Give your love and all your heart

And do what you do do well

There may not be many of us that are old enough to remember this song, or even listened to this song when it was popular, but the advice is valid regardless of how old we are.  In real estate, you need now more than ever, to do what you do well.  Whether it is taking care of a buyer or a seller, do it to the best of your abilities.

Increase your ability to do your job well through education, seminars, and any other training that you can find to help you improve the quality of work.  This is your chosen profession, and much has been written about how easy it is to become a licensed Real Estate Agent, in most cases, not too much schooling, and passing a test are all that is required.  Here in Utah it is a 90 hour class, and pass the test.

It is up to you to get what you need to get to do your job well.  We need to be experts in our market area, more than that we need to become the most competent agents that we can become.  We can't get by being lazy and letting things come to us.  We read at least once a week here on Active Rain someone venting about the incompetence of another agent.

Darcy was telling me about a web site that she read about in the Realtor magazine dedicated to bad real estate agents.  I am not going to say that should not have happened, we all know that!  It is up to us to become as proficient and professional as possible, in so doing, we also should become market experts and real estate gurus.  If we do what we do well, give all our heart, and constantly improve, we will become that very thing, the neighborhood expert in our area!  Make it a Great Week!

Worded Wednesday II

I haven't been able to find any real cool photographs this week, so I thought that I would go back and do a quote instead.  I know that a picture is worth a 1000 words, so I will have to keep working on it.  I again was going through some of the motivational quotes that I have and came across a good one by Walt Disney.

Anyway the quote goes: "Somehow I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true...They are curiosity, confidence, courage and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence."

I have always liked and admired Walt Disney, and so I find a lot of motivation in this quote.  Besides, look at what he created, and it all started with a Mouse!  Go out and make it a great week!
