Parowan Rock Church

In doing our series of Churches in the Cedar City Area, I am including the Old Parowan Rock Church.  It is no longer a Church, rather it is a museum about the settlers of not only Parowan, but of all of Southern Utah.  The Church was completed in 1867 and served as an LDS Meetinghouse until the 1920's.  It was restored in the 1940's and has been used as a museum since I can remember.

It is located in the Town Square in Parowan, near the Parowan Library.

Very cool! I'm always happy to see an historical building restored and put to good use!

The colors of the snow and sky really make the stonework of the church stand out. It would be interesting to compare this with a shot taken during the summer.

I love to see historical buildings that are rescued - I take lots of photos of them here in VA

Debi: I agree with the restoration of old buildings, new buildings just don't have the character nor the workmanship that the new buildings have.

John: I will have to take another photo in Spring!  I used our new zoom lens for this shot, so I will try to remember to take another one.

Diane: It is pretty interesting.  I need to spend some more time inside of it.

Karen: I don't blame you, these old buildings are worth saving and make great photography subjects!  I am sure that Virginia has lots of great old buildings!

I love stone churches. And it is great they found a new purpose for this building!
