Fridays musings..............

I was looking at some material to write about when I came across a quote by Stephen R. Covey of the 7 Habits fame.  I found it to really be what I needed today.  I have found myself making excuses a lot lately; it's the market, buyers just aren't ready to commit.  The list could go on and on.  I found this quote on the internet and wished to share it with everyone;

Don't argue for other people's weaknesses. Don't argue for your own. When you make a mistake, admit it, correct it, and learn from it--immediately."

This may not correct the market conditions, but it does tell me that my attitude needs some adjusting.  I am a firm believer of the old addage of whether you think that you can or can't, you're right.  Excuses like the market conditions are just a way of justifying something.  Whether it's not getting out and meeting people, or not doing the things that you need to do in order to be a better Realtor.

I also like the third sentence, admit your mistakes.  I get so tired of all of the "spinning" that goes on in the world.  I have much more respect from someone that looks me in the eye and says: "I made a mistake, I apologize, it won't happen again."  Rather than, "I wanted to call you back about showing my listing, I just was too busy to get back with you."  My first thought is how many potential buyers do you have wanting to preview your listings?

The first sentence is important as well, don't make excuses for other people.  I would also take from that first line, don't dwell on (gossip about) weaknesses that we percieve in others.  I don't know about everyone else, but I do know that I make enough mistakes by myself, that I don't need to take on someone else's along with mine.

Hopefully, this thought will help each of us to do a better job in our Real Estate careers and be better people.  Have a great and safe weekend!

Good advice! I see it had a positive effect on you. I always say, "Life is too short to perfect your weaknesses." Sorta fits with your thinking this morning!

Honesty - is the first step in recovery.  Excuses don't help anyone.  Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for your responses.  I think that it is time to be honest not only with ourselves but with everyone that we deal with.
